Coastal Maine gets brunt of Monday snowfall

Towns along the coast reported the bulk of the snowfall Monday as flakes continued to fall into Tuesday morning, according to data from the National Weather Service.

As of Monday, East Machias had reported the highest snowfall, with 8 inches, but inland areas reported 3-5 inches of snow. Most areas along the coast got in the range of 4-5 inches.

Across New England, Rhode Island had the highest average snowfall across 38 weather stations, at about 5.9 inches. Across 125 weather reports statewide, Maine’s average snowfall was about 4.2 inches as of Tuesday morning.

Check back later today for updates as snow continues to fall in some areas of the state Tuesday morning.
