Bangor-area Republican donors liked Cruz best

With the suspension of the Republican Ted Cruz-Carly Fiorina campaign after voting in Indiana, major party donors in the Bangor area have lost their top pick.

Those donations don’t reflect all contribution activity, but just those of donors that have or are on track to give more than $200 in a given election cycle, or those for whom campaigns have disclosed addresses.

By that count, Cruz was a favorite in the 04401, with 12 donors giving a little more than $2,000. The Cruz-Fiorina ticket was a favorite statewide. Ben Carson was next-highest in the Bangor area, with six donors giving about $1,700.

Combined, Cruz and Fiorina’s fundraising topped that of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush who through March still led fundraising for a single candidate on the Republican side.

With the announcement late Monday night, Mainers have contributed at least $449,000 to campaigns of candidates who have since dropped out of the race, including John Kasich, who was expected to drop out Tuesday, leaving the Republican nomination to real estate mogul Donald Trump.
